APAC Focus supported the “Originality in the Age of AI — Music, Authorship, Ethics” (presentation and discussion) that was held at Hosei University on 23 January 2026. Despite a few unexpected technical hiccups, the room stayed warm and supportive — and the audience kindly laughed it off and kept the energy light.

The conversation raised some big questions: how originality is defined when AI becomes part of the creative process, what authorship means today, and how ethics should be approached as technology transforms the music world. One key takeaway emerged clearly: AI isn’t something to either celebrate blindly or reject completely — it’s something to be embraced with curiosity, and treated with caution. Even with imperfect logistics, the exchange stayed thoughtful and sincere, because everyone brought curiosity and goodwill into the room.

Sincere thanks to the speakers and everyone who attended and contributed so generously; also to Hosei University and our supporting organisations including Commonverse. It honestly felt like the discussion could have continued much longer — and it’s a pity there wasn’t more time to explore more perspectives and go deeper.
