On 16 November 2023, Bryan Luk, our Program Director, successfully delivered a school talk and training session aimed at students’ parents and teachers, focusing on the critical importance of digital literacy education. This initiative sought to enhance understanding of digital challenges faced by students today and to equip educators and parents with the necessary tools to support children in navigating the digital landscape safely and responsibly.

Key Topics Covered

Prevention of Cyberbullying:

The seminar emphasized the significance of digital literacy as a vital tool in preventing cyberbullying. Participants learned about the various forms of cyberbullying and strategies to recognize and combat this issue. Bryan highlighted the role of parents and teachers in fostering a safe online environment, encouraging open communication about online experiences.

Resilience Against Fake News and Hate Speech:

A significant portion of the training was dedicated to enhancing students’ resilience against misinformation, including fake news and hate speech. Bryan discussed critical thinking skills that enable students to discern credible information from misleading content. The session included practical exercises to help participants identify red flags in online information sources.

Teachers’ Role in Promoting Peace and Positive Education:

The seminar underscored the essential role teachers play in promoting peace and positive education within their classrooms. Bryan shared effective pedagogical approaches that educators can implement to cultivate an inclusive atmosphere that respects diversity and encourages respectful dialogue among students.

The talk concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing parents and teachers to discuss their concerns and share experiences related to digital literacy challenges. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, indicating a strong desire for continued education on these critical topics. This event marks a significant step towards building a community that prioritizes digital literacy as a foundation for safe and responsible engagement in today’s increasingly digital world.
