APAC Focus is honored to support “Meiji Graves in Happy Valley — Stories of Early Japanese Residents in Hong Kong” (book talk and Q&A) that was held at Hosei University on 20 February 2026. The room was attentive and focused, and the questions flowed easily.

The talk examined how personal histories and archival research intersect, and how memory and migration shape the way the past is recorded and understood. The Q&A brought in questions from both in-person and online participants, touching on research methods, lives of Japanese people in HK back then and contemporary relevance.

Sincere thanks to our speaker Dr Yoshiko Nakano, our moderator Mrs Yumiko Nakano, our co-host Hosei University, and supporting organisations — HKU Japanese Studies Programme, CUHK Department of Japanese Studies, HKU Business School Japan Alumni Network, and Commonverse — for their partnership and support in bringing this event to life. It felt like a session that could easily have gone on longer.
