The seminar, "Against the Ashes of Time: Revisiting the Historical Meaning of the Chinese War of Resistance," was successfully held on 4 October 2025 at the historic Main Building of The University of Hong Kong, a 110-year-old architectural landmark in Hong Kong.

It was presented by Prof. Michael Luk, Honorary Associate Professor of the HKU Department of History and the School of Chinese, Honorary Programme Director (Training Projects) at the HKU Mainland Affairs Office, and Convenor of the Institute for Greater China Studies & APAC Focus, IGCS.

Prof. Luk offered a compelling review of the historical development, enduring significance, and far-reaching implications of the Chinese War of Resistance. Also, the discussion highlighted the importance of promoting both regional and global peace, as well as fostering constructive and positive development.

Echoing the sentiment that “War... war never changes,” Prof. Luk and members of the HKU Graduates Association reflected on the devastating consequences of conflict. They affirmed a shared vision: to learn from history, to avoid repeating past mistakes, and to advance the cause of peace.
