#HK: Statement regarding to HK's Five-Year Plan

APAC Focus welcomes the Hong Kong Government’s commitment in its First Five-Year Plan to strengthen Hong Kong’s role in international organisations and attract more international and multilateral institutions to establish offices or regional headquarters in the city.

APAC Focus previously submitted recommendations to the Government under the theme, “Hong Kong as a GBA Hub for International Organisations: Linking China and the World.” 

We are pleased to see key directions from our submission reflected in the Plan, including the attraction of international organisations, deeper international cooperation and exchanges, and a more active role for Hong Kong in international and multilateral platforms.

We particularly welcome the Plan’s recognition of Hong Kong’s engagement with organisations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization and the World Meteorological Organization, as well as its commitment to participate actively in forums including APEC and the World Trade Organization.

The proposed development of an International Commercial Court also strengthens Hong Kong’s position as an international legal and dispute-resolution services centre.

International organisations can bring policy dialogue, professional talent, research partnerships and new opportunities for regional cooperation.

With its international connectivity, legal and financial expertise, and unique role linking Mainland China, the Greater Bay Area and the world, Hong Kong is well placed to become a leading Asia-Pacific hub for international organisations.
